I've been here going on four years, and several members have been around for longer than that... from experience, I can tell you that new members posting "Hey, be nice, don't post off topic things" just doesn't work. Actually, it doesn't work when older members try it either. The off topic discussions have probably occurred since the beginning of the list; and the fights have been like this for a couple of years now. Basically, if you've only been here a couple of days, that's not long enough to get a feel for how things work on this mailing list. Lurk for a while, and see how things go. Real conversations DO happen on occasion, and there are some great people who still haven't carried out on their threats to unsubscribe. If you just watch for a while, you might be surprised to find that sometimes decent posts slip through - probably by accident, but still. As far as religion - given the themes in many of Creed's songs, the religious discussions aren't going to stop anytime soon. That's another topic that's been around for ages. If you don't like a topic, just delete the whole thread. If you don't like certain posters, just block them. Telling other list members what to do and what not to do just doesn't work. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brian T Hayden" To: Sent: Wednesday, June 19, 2002 4:37 AM Subject: NCR: religion & respect > Man i have only been on here for two days and ive seen more fighting and disagreements then i thought could be possible. i posted a message about why i love creed and got two responses, while religious and other topics seem to dominate this board: intended for creed fans to talk about creed. SO in short, if your not going to be nice DONT POST. im tired of reading through your crap just to find people who have something positive to speak. im sure i speak not only for myself in asking you to respect the other members of this board, but for many many fans who just want to cut the crap. > > On the topic of religion, i'll be brief b/c basically i could go on for hours. I agree with the statement that not everyone on here believes in the same bible, and i merely would like to state a different perspective, if i can enlighten someone and bring peace to them the way i have for myself i would love to, but i have to give them the opportunity. I do not believe in the bible as do christians, but i do not feel that the bible is false. Merely a collection of stories to prove a point and as evidence of a supreme being. Have you ever heard the story of Paul Bunyan? based on fact but exaggereated for effect and to prove a point. same thing. I believe that god does not want us to look to a book for our answers, but to our own hearts. WE have to find what WE believe; self-enlightenment is the goal. its much less confrontational (except most people HAVE A COW when i tell them this. it is just absolutely unacceptable to them) and it is much more rewarding to find god for yourself. > and i purposefully did not capitalize so as to show that it is not "God" but who you find as god. THEY ARE THE SAME PERSON, merely untitled as such. i only ask that you THINK about what ive said, not believe it, just think about it. also think about this because i know this is troubling to me about catholics (merely because i am associated with many, i PROMISE i am not trying to single out anyone) but do you really believe what youve been TAUGHT since you were young? do you realize how MANIPULATABLE you have been most likely for as long as you can remember? > Brian > > > _________________________________________ > Communicate with others using Lycos Mail for FREE! > http://mail.lycos.com/ > > To unsubscribe or change your preferences for the Creed-Discuss list, visit: > http://www.winduplist.com/ls/discuss/form.asp To unsubscribe or change your preferences for the Creed-Discuss list, visit: http://www.winduplist.com/ls/discuss/form.asp
