I’m generally a person that goes by how something makes me feel, without trying to analyze too much on the meaning of symbolic images etc. Although it still fascinates me and its nice to know ‘cause it adds to the whole picture. I must agree with what you said Deb, the way they made the video “One Last Breath” and the way the story progresses within it is brilliantly in sync with the lyrics of the song! Scott is obviously singing about how he feels, on the edge of losing control, lonely, scared and extremely trapped in life. With the first piece of cliff face giving way it shows how much the guy is in trouble, while he’s holding on to what’s safe (that little platform) and how there’s nowhere to go and how trapped he is! Don’t you think it looks strange when he’s falling? It looks like he’s in a dream. And while he’s falling he passes a few things like the sand covered dude with his arm stretched out, and at that point Scott sings about reflecting back on his life, which makes sense ‘cause that sand/mud covered dude was on the cover of Creed’s Human Clay album. By the way, I’ve got no idea what the muddy guy stands for exactly, or the name “Human Clay” for that matter. Maybe symbolic from the Bible where God molds us like clay?? I must say it seems like the whole “Weathered” album is about reflecting on their past. When that sand storm comes through with that big mouth called life (or this damn self-centered world) and swallows him it just shows how extremely hard things are, and how he’s fighting and not give in! And he’s calling for help. Who does he want to hold him? God? Or is he just desperately needing someone specific or anyone to be there? I think both. What do you guys think is the meaning of the tiger, the 3 girls or the elephant statue and the girl with the umbrella. And the old guy on the boat? Or just the boat for that matter! And who’s the girl with the sad eyes??? I think this section is somewhat separate from the rest of the song. Someone our leading man cares about deeply. But look at one thing. I’m probably the last one to notice this, but right towards the end the same girl with the sad eyes tries to go up some stairs but is stopped by the creatures protecting the entrance. Is that the same stairs that leads up to Scott where he’s standing at the top? Is something stopping them from being together and happy? To me the most inspiring part of the video is when it ends with Scott standing at the top again, which to me means that there’s still hope although there’s lots of sadness. Although, on second thought, it does seem that he’s very alone and just holding on to what is safe while he actually did lose hope concerning something or someone specific, like the girl standing at the bottom of those steps …or maybe he does have hope but there’s too many things in the way. Over to you guys, I’m thinking too much. Len From: "Len v.d. Westhuizen" Date: Thu, 6 Jun 2002 14:07:31 +0200 Subject: Re: New member from South Africa Hi Deb Nice to be here. Looks like I've got some catching up to do. The song really appealed to me from the first time I heard it. It describes the way i feel sometimes, lonely, close to the edge, being haunted by the past (good and bad) just waiting for things to go totally crazy and for me to lose total controll!! But the way I sometimes see life myself is that I put myself above the whole "crazyness of life". Just standing on a high mountain, overlooking everything, taking it all in and resisting everything that gets thrown at me, winds almost blowing me off my feet, blowing my hair crazy (I've got long hair). And amist all these things hope and piece. I now that might sound silly, but thats why the first time I finally got to see the "One Last Breath" video it instantly appealed to me. I'll have a closer look again at it 'cause there's so many things that one can pick up hey. Every little thing must have some kind of meaning, which, I must admit is quite difficult to sometimes analize. I will write some more later, I'm at work and the boss-man will get angry. I'd love to discuss "One Last Breath" with you. Some folks here have discussed it a bit already, but hearing your thoughts on it would be great. I thought the symbolism in the video was terrific. It made sense to me with the words of the song.
