I have read a lot of information and biography on Scott Stapp.  I do not believe he was ever "addicted" to drugs.  He did experiment when he got away from his parent's home.  But trying or even "doing" drugs from time to time, does not automatically define someone as an addict.  I think that there is an element of physiological dependence which has to be present to indicate an "addiction."

The line "should of been dead on a Sunday morning banging my head" from "My Own Prison" was written because Scott had 4 cups of shroom-juice and passed out and woke up on a Sunday morning literally banging his head because he thought he was going to die.           (copied from biography)
