================================================ Subject: What if your words could be judged like a crime? From: "Sandy Carter" To: Date: Sat 16 Mar 2002 12:06:40 -0600 ================================================ "This one already has a set of guidelines. I personally am not asking for censorship, only following the guidelines of this list. It seems to me that you can be "passionate" without attacking other people in the process. Freedom of speech works both ways. YOU may see it as "whining", I see it as exercising my rights through the use of the list guidelines." Michele, you also have had the right all along to hit the delete button or to unsubscribe if you wish, just as the rest of us do. AND you have the right to take up your opinion of someone's use of words with the individual themselves. You do NOT have the right (by disagreeing with someone's language) to represent everyone on the list by establishing boundaries that are yours. Do you actually think by attempting to control your environment with censorship, you are going to make the words stop? That to me sounds controlling. By whining, those of you who feel like you've accomplished your goal by supporting moderation on the list have not only taken liberties with others rights and opinions, but you are closing your eyes to what's really being said. Did you ever think to yourself, "WHY is this person responding in this manner?" Did you ever get past the words which offend you so much and think of what is actually being conveyed? It's easier to react than to think. I'm thinking this is not somewhere you've been, and have no interest in going. All the while, I'm understanding that as a business and a collective role model, and because they believe in the powerful impression music can have, Creed wishes to convey a positive message, and I respect that. What I don't respect is an individual who wishes to control others with whom they don't agree.
