Excuse me now while I go and download and burn a copy of Windows XP. I mean, Microsoft makes millions in the first week of releasing software, so why would they care if I stole one copy from them off the internet. If they didn't want me doing it, they wouldn't make it so damn expensive in the first place. And then I think I might go out to the car lot and steal a nice new Dodge Ram pick-up. If they didn't want me to steal it, they should have done something to make the trucks cost less. The way I see it, everyone should be able to drive a brand new truck whenever they want, and should be able to have the most stable operating system available to them whenever they need it. Most of the people who had heard Weathered when you were sending your review were AOL users... now, this might sound odd to you, but AOL had the ability to listen to the entire album before it's public release. It was all part of the fact that Creed was their Band Of The Month. Are you making any form of connection between this and people saying they had already heard the album? Before trying to shove facts about us in our faces, try doing some research. An archive search engine is available... I suggest you make use of it. Daniel, I think it's time you reviewed copyright laws... even when someone buys the CD, the music is still owned by the band and record company. That's how it works... and if you so believe that it's okay to outright steal from them, then not only can you not truly call yourself a fan (since you won't support the band) but I hope you don't mind people looking at you in a new light. And on a more personal note, I'm all for meeting list members, but remind me to never invite you by if you ever make it to this part of the world... I don't like associating with people who steal. Oh, and a beautiful attack on Keith for something totally unrelated to the topic of conversation. Amazing how people call HIM the asshole. People can afford to pay an internet bill every month, they can afford a CD burner, and they can afford a computer that will properly support that burner, and they can afford to purchase blank CDR's, and yet they can't afford to buy origional CD's? Give me a break... it's not a matter of what people can afford. It's a matter of people not WANTING to support the band that made the music, so they steal it off the internet instead. Hence the term THEFT. Read below for defenitions, as it would appear you have no clue what the terms 'theft' and copyright' mean. ***Theft \Theft\, n. [OE. thefte, AS. [thorn]i['e]f[eth]e, [thorn][=y]f[eth]e, [thorn]e['o]f[eth]e. See Thief.] 1. (Law) The act of stealing; specifically, the felonious taking and removing of personal property, with an intent to deprive the rightful owner of the same; larceny. Note: To constitute theft there must be a taking without the owner's consent, and it must be unlawful or felonious; every part of the property stolen must be removed, however slightly, from its former position; and it must be, at least momentarily, in the complete possession of the thief. See Larceny, and the Note under Robbery. ***copyright adj : (of literary or musical or dramatic or artistic work) protected by copyright; "permission to publish copyright material" [syn: copyrighted] n : a document granting exclusive right to publish and sell literary or musical or artistic work [syn: right of first publication] v : secure a copyright on a written work; "did you copyright your manuscript?" ¤]\[][G}{T§TÖ®]v[¤ ----- Original Message ----- From: Daan Pranger To: CREED-DISCUSS@WINDUPLIST.COM Sent: Thursday, March 07, 2002 8:10 AM Subject: burning cd's and downloading music Dinah , I'm with you on this one. -quote- And we talk like we've never done something this stupid before because WE HAVEN'T. - keith blablablablablabla. I clearly remember when I signed up for this list to tell you I was the first who had the weathered-album, (it was released in europe earlier than in the US), and gave my little description of the songs, you all thanked me very much, telling it wasn't necessary because most of you already had heard all of the songs because they were downloadable from the internet. except keith of course, because he probably destroyed his mop album because scott sings goddamn on it. of course, burning cd's and selling them (or giving them away) is illegal, but then, they shouln't have made them that bloody expensive. Here in holland a cd costs about 20 dollars, and I can imagine that some people just not can afford to buy all their cd's original. It is also very much the question whether a person who pays 1 or 2 dollars for a burned cd, thinks that same cd is worth 20 dollars, so that when it could not be burned, he wouldn't have bought it anyway. Or, he thinks the cd is that good so he will buy the original cd also. the way i see it, everybody should be able to listen to music, even those who can't afford original cd's. and I thought that that was what rock & roll was all about. If creed and wind-up are really so upset by people who copy cd's, maybe they should do something about the price of a cd. Just like they are not making enough money already with almost a million original cd's sold in one week. I don't think they have that much to complain about. If they are not happy enough with the fact that everybody knows -and is able to listen to- their music, plus they are making a very good living out of it for themselves, they do not diserve any money at all.
