From: "Keith Mears" To: Date: Thu 7 Mar 2002 19:21:14 -0500 ================================================ Yeah, because EVERY artist, be it a musician, an actor, a sculptor, et al, is immediately thrust into the limelight and showered with money, fame, and all the finer things in life the moment they make the decision to BE an artist, right? Gimme a break. For every SUPERSTAR (Creed, Metallica, Tom Hanks....you get the picture), there are probably a DOZEN who are making just enough to make ends meet, and probably another TWO DOZEN who end up working at Burger King. For that matter, we could throw athletes into this picture as well. Do some of them make ungodly amounts of money? Sure, but consider that they've spent their entire lives working towards that very goal. Case in point: I saw a band called Jonasay perform live with Hootie and the Blowfish last November. Hootie, while I wouldn't necessarily call them superstars, have certainly attained international fame, and with the 12th best selling CD of all time (according to the RIAA), they certainly have "financial freedom". Jonasay are unknown outside of the middle of the East Coast, except by those of us fortunate enough to have seen their few shows in the Midwest. They would be considered "struggling" at this point, despite the fact that these guys are AWESOME. They're also very intelligent and LIKABLE people, and very much in touch with their fans. Some day, in the not too distant future, they probably WILL be superstars, but ONLY if WE, the FANS, don't STEAL THEIR MUSIC. -----Original Message----- From: Creed Discussion List [mailto:CREED-DISCUSS@WINDUPLIST.COM] On Behalf Of Asaf Atiya Sent: Thursday, March 07, 2002 4:48 PM To: CREED-DISCUSS@WINDUPLIST.COM Subject: Re: burning cds for a friend: stealing or saving money?   First off, I would like to state that I do not feel sorry for any preforming artist and/or record company, because of the fact that people have access to what they've worked hard for without paying them a dime. They have their fair share of money. But, that too, is irrelevant. Now you're probably asking yourselves why I said this if it's irrelevant - Well, it's because the artists DO get paid for what they've worked, and not too poorly, I might add. Concerts, Comercials, Merchandise, etc. all add to thier wealth a great deal. My point is, that being a celebrity pays (money) - regardless of whether people buy you're CDs or not.   To unsubscribe or change your preferences for the Creed-Discuss list, visit: http://www.winduplist.com/ls/discuss/form.asp
