I love it when clueless ID10T cases come onto usenet groups and ask about stuff like that. The biggest one I've seen as of late is on the Harry Potter newsgroup where everyone wants e-copies of the texts or mp3s of the audio books. One such case posted the question so I decided to have some fun and direct him to an e-mail addy within scholastic.com (Rowling's U.S. publisher). THe ID10T e-mailed them and... SURPRISE SURPRISE SURPRISE! They sent him back a nasty note and kindly told him to fork over the hooch if he wants to read their books.  He complains to MY ISP who turns around and sends me a CC of the e-mail they sent him (legalities and good taste aside, I guess...) and asked if he seriously expected them to kill my account for not providing him with effective help in performing an act of theft. Gotta love it....  I also routinely direct these inquiries to FBI.gov.  I'm a sick twist....

Burning a mix cd for myself to take with me in the car or to work or whatever is one thing -- and perfectly legal.  Providing someone else with released music without paying for it is another thing entirely -- and not legal.  Talking about it on that band's mailing list is just plain stupid.

Okay, I may have some problems with alternate personalities, but I have a feeling this may have been intended for the whole list.  And to answer your question, yes, we've probably all burned CDs before, but we don't go talking about it on the official mailing list of the band we're essentially stealing from.  Oy.
