oh by the way- just a note: (and no not a sarcasm one...)
yes scott did stop responding to the bb board for a while after HC came out- he said due to the negativity from the fans...he said he was gonna have to take a break from it and apologized to those not involved...

The band didn't stop reading the bulletin board because of negativity towards the band though...they stopped reading it because of the hateful, horrible way the fans talked to each other.  And the bulletin board was FAR worse than this list has ever been.  I know....I've been a member of both for years.

What you have to understand is that a little negative feedback isn't a terrible thing....it's something the band needs, to understand their fanbase.  And that's why the label created the bulletin board and discussion lists in the first place, so they and the band could keep their finger on the pulse of what the fans think of the band and the music.  Without the fans, they're nothing....and they understand that.  If for instance, they see a lot of people complaining about the lip synching....they'd be likely to think....Wow, I guess we shouldn't do THAT again!   Those that were making comments about the SNL performance weren't necessarily bashing the band....they were just saying that particular live performance had some problems....sound, lack of warm-up for Scott's voice (which, being an untrained singer, he desperately needs), that sort of thing.  They can also use the feedback to decide which songs the fans would most want to hear done at a live show, which they most likely take into consideration when making up their set lists.

The band is not perfect, they're fallible human beings, and they know this...I'm quite certain they don't cry when they see comments that aren't all happy-cheery-rosey.  But this list isn't all bad....it isn't all arguments and member bashing....it can be a fun, informative, enlightening thing to read, and often is.  But it's also a discussion list among many varied personality types, and if we were all just a bit more tolerant of each others personality differences, then the discussions remain just that....discussions, not arguments.
