I think you're taking my remarks somewhat out of context.  I don't mean to imply that they shouldn't check either lists or BB's to gauge fan reaction.  I'm saying that I can't see a reason for them to care about things like the petty arguments that arise so frequently, which happens on ALL lists that I'm a part of (hasn't happened on mine yet, but I hold no illusions that it WON'T happen when/if membership ever takes off).  Every list will have its trolls, and every list will have disagreements, because that's human nature, and it's what makes being on a list interesting, IMHO.  If EVERY member of a list simply agreed with one another, there would be no point in having the list.

And when it comes right down to it, what I REALLY mean to say is that I am opposed to a member of a list censoring his/her remarks on ANY issue simply because there's a chance that someone "important" (i.e. band member, sports star, etc.) MIGHT drop in to see what's going on.  I have NO problem with ANYONE taking aim at my opinions on pretty much any subject, and despite my penchant for trolling, I AM capable of holding an intelligent, NON-trolling discussion.

Well, I do have to disagree with you Keith, that  bandmembers would have no reason to occasionally check in and read what their fans are saying about them, be it on a discussion list, or a bulletin board, because these forums are a very good way for the band to guage fan reaction.  I'm acquainted with enough band members, from various groups, to know that they do indeed like to check that sort of thing.  Obviously, Stapp or any of the other members aren't likely to remain current members of the list, the volume of mail would be too overwhelming for them to keep up with...but it's a fairly well known fact that they DO watch the bulletin board....if not personally, then by close friends and family.

There has been occasion when Stapp has posted on the board in regards to heated discussion regarding various topics.....the Brian/Pearl Jam thing comes immediately to mind...but over the last year or so, I believe the band members have become quite disillusioned with the behavior of a large portion of their "so-called" fan base on the bulletin board...most notably, the high ratio of "trolls" that frequent it, so none of them have posted in a long time.  That of course, doesn't mean they don't read it!
