I feel responsible for this whole argument thread, since I was the first person who posted regarding the message limit and shorter posts. My intentions were good, but again, it seems to have blown into a full scale battle. Perhaps it would be easier to just ask Ed to e-mail the general rules to the list? That way, I wouldn't be criticized for "acting like I own the list" for pointing out things that the longer-time listers know, but that newer members would have no way of realizing. To reiterate - I've been on this list pretty much non-stop for just shy of three years. No, I don't think that gives me any special privileges; HOWEVER, it DOES mean that I'm familiar with the way things work on the list. Just like if you do the same job for three years, you generally know more about it than someone who's just started. The unofficial "rules" of this mailing list are pretty simple, and there are always exceptions to the rules, but they're things that it takes a while to figure out, or that require information from other people. (Such as the 500? per day post limit - the limit that used to be set at 150, and could potentially drop back down to that 150 if the guy in charge were to get irritated with all this fighting). Nothing I said was meant in a mean way, and I apologize if it came across that way. Perhaps the "new to the list?" post that Jen, and then Scott, used to post regularly should come back out of hiding? It would at least clear up some questions and provide some information for the new members of the list... just an idea.
