I believe that Scott's "friend" in the song is Christ. I believe that he is expressing the emotions that he feels when he is with God. I think the "perfect love" that Scott talks about is the love that Christ gave to him and to all mankind through the Crucifixion -thus Christ is his "sacrifice".
