Simple... Biology. What's biology? Well, in human behavior, it's genetic makeup by and large. What behavior you choose (as an otherwise psychologically healthy person) based on that attraction isn't related to biology. Don't confuse the attraction with the behavior. Same for addiction. There is a strong genetic link to addiction. However it's not biology that forces addicts to use. It only sets up the reward system in the brain that triggers when they choose addictive behavior. -----Original Message----- From: Creed Discussion List [mailto:CREED-DISCUSS@WINDUPLIST.COM] On Behalf Of Alexis M Sent: Monday, October 15, 2001 1:15 PM To: CREED-DISCUSS@WINDUPLIST.COM Subject: Re: ncr: really random question Ok choice was probably the wrong word for what I am trying to get at. But in a way, both are choices. You have to first make the choice to drink or "experiment" with homosexuality. Then, most are hooked afterward. But what I am trying to say, strictly IMO, is that I think it's NOT genetic. You can't help it to drink, and you can't help it to be homosexual, but is it necessarily in your genetic make-up? To be genetic it would have to be passed down, am I correct on that? That means it would have to be in your blood line? (I could be confusing it with something else, that's why I'm asking) You can come from a family of alcoholics and not be one yourself, and visa versa. Same with homsexuality. Someone could be straight/sober throughout their life, but then in one likeable experience, their outlook can be changed. And I know it can't be helped. As I've said, you can't help who/what you are in love with. That's feelings, but genetics? To me, no. I am in no way trying to bash people with this believe because, honestly, I CAN see how it can be genetic. But the whole choice in the beginning factor comes into play here.
