That could definitely be the case Jim, but there could be other reasons behind them not auditioning another bass player.  We don't really no everything that goes on in their lives so we can't really be sure of their reasoning behind anything.  Who knows maybe they've talked to some guys and found it wouldn't work out, or maybe they are greedy bastards who rather let the music suffer than divide the money up 4 ways.  Well that is the money that they get after it's already been split up amongst everyone else who has a hand in making an album and running a tour.  I would like to think Creed wouldn't allow the music to suffer for the sake of money, but they are only human. BTW I would love for them to get a bass player, but they shouldn't get one just for the sake of having one.  It has to be someone who is up to their standards, and whom they could work with on a professional, personal, and creative level. Someone who wouldn't disrupt the chemistry of the band.
