I would post extensive detail, but it would be much longer than the 250 line limit. If you wish for me to e-mail it to you privately (the info, not the virus) then just make the request. This is a VERY intense virus, having been upgraded to HIGH RISK over the course of several days, ranking it above anything that most antivirus experts have ever had to contend with. AND FOR GAWD SAKES PEOPLE... UPDATE YOUR ANTIVIRUS!!! If for whatever reason, you do not have an antivirus program on your computer, again e-mail me and we will fix that. ¤]\[][G}{T§TÖ®]v[¤ PE_NIMDA.A http://www.antivirus.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=PE_NIMDA.A Aliases: NIMDA.A, W32/Nimda.A@mm, CV-5, Minda, Concept Virus, Code Rainbow Description: This worm uses three modes for propagation. It spreads via email, network shares, or through servers with IIS installed using the IIS Web Directory Traversal exploit. When spreading through mail, it typically arrives with the attachment readme.exe. It drops the file mepXXXX.tmp.exe in the C:\Windows\Temp directory, which is an eml format mail. This temp file contains the file attachment sent by the worm. For Automatic Cleaning and Removal: 1. Please download and apply the fix tool (http://www.antivirus.com/vinfo/security/nimda_form/). 2. Trend Micro requests that all users download and read the readme_nimda122.txt (http://a1520.g.akamai.net/7/1520/537/0000162/www.antivirus.com/vinfo/securi ty/readme_nimda122.txt) before using this tool. 3. Scan your system with Trend Micro antivirus. To do this Trend Micro customers must download the latest pattern file and scan their system. Other email users may use HouseCall, Trend Micro's free online virus scanner (http://housecall.antivirus.com/). Some infected files may be corrupted. Delete these files. ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Thursday, September 20, 2001 10:32 PM Subject: PRAYING THIS ISN'T TRUE..... > Dear List, > My brother took the liberty of scaring the shit out of me, let's see if my fear is valid. He told me that in his computer class, the teachers wouldn't let them go on the internet at all today becasue there was a high risk of them catching a virus. He didn't say how you could catch it, or whatever. But he said that he didn't want me surfing anything on our desktop. He said that the teacher told them that this virus was supposedly beyond code red, and was worst than anything they've ever seen. He said it was a worm that works by turning on all the programs in your computer at once, thus burning your hard drive. But, he asn't FOR SURE if thats what it does. He said that this is linked to the terrorists. Does anyone know anything about this, or if it's false or true?! (if it's false, I'm really sorry about spreading rumors, but I'm praying that it is!). > Thanxs!!!, > Rachel aka Moonchild To unsubscribe or change your preferences for the Creed-Discuss list, visit: http://www.winduplist.com/ls/discuss/form.asp
