================================================ Subject: interesting time at Salinas airshow From: "Lisa King" To: Date: Sun 16 Sep 2001 18:55:25 +0000 ================================================ Just thought some might like to know about the airshow I worked at with my daughters ROTC group. It was almost canceled to begin with because all planes had been grounded. All involved got together and decided to put it on anyway and send all the proceeds to the families of the victims. It was interesting to say the least. We had an elephant and camel on the runway, a car that goes 300 MPH and Robosaurus, (a car eating robot that shoots out fire to cook it's "meal". The parts that brought tears to your eyes though was when we got word that 3 F18s had come from Canada because the Thunderbirds were unable to perform. Canada came on one days notice and barely got in with all the restrictions. As it was there was a major delay in them flying over because again they almost did not get clearance to leave the Monterey airport to fly over ours. They still have not gotten clearance to leave yet. The most sentamental time came when they played the song "wind beneath your wings" as we watched first representaives from as branches of the military parade down the tarmac followed by medical personal, fireman and police. I could not keep the tears out of my eyes. Still recovering today as my group had grounds keeping. (keeping all the trash off the ground and bleacher seats.)
