If I had it to do again, I'd go Air Force.  They have the cushiest EVERYTHING (with the possible exception of the Coast Guard, but CG isn't "real" military, since it's DOT; no offense to Chris, Debbi).  And drill instructor is appropriate for any branch.  Drill sergeant is USUALLY reserved for the Army, though I believe the Marines may use it interchangeably (Debbi would probably know for sure here).

My grandpa was a drill instructor (or sergeant... I can't remember which is for what branch) in the Navy, and carried that attitude into his home life.  My dad was in the Navy, but I don't know him well enough to say what he's like.  And my ex-husband was in the Army for a short time - he left before he finished basic, though, when a wall locker fell on him and crushed his foot - he opted to leave rather than be recycled.  But he hated it anyway, and I don't think he has the right personality for the military - too much of a free spirit mindset.  I wanted to join the Peace Corps, but decided against it when I became pregnant with my oldest son.  Since I have three military branches covered in three generations of male relatives, think that means my son will join the Air Force?
