the bonuses aren't so huge unless their totally hurting for the rank and rate combo.  The re-enlistment bonuses have seriously declined over the last..... eh... 7 years or so.  but if you're the right rate and rank, they'll write a pretty big check to keep you.  It's not as big as it's been historically, though.

Since the only way I could get back in now is LITERALLY through an act of Congress, I really don't pay much attention any more.

But when I WAS in, anyone was eligible for huge bonuses, the G.I. Bill, or both.  It all depended on your MOS, and sometimes your enlistment term.

Have you checked out anything recently?  My brother was going to go to
the Marines (until he turned into a drug addict), and they told him that if
he scored over 50 that they would give him a whole crap load of money.  I
forget how much, but I know it was alot.  It was enough to make me think of
joining the military, and I hate the military! My dad is a military man and
raised me thus (in other words, hes a complete asshole, loud, dominating,
doesn't give a damn about what I think or feel, and it's ALWAYS his way or the
highway.  It didnt help much either that he grew up in Queens,Ny and is a big
scary italian guy...)
