How in the hell a company like Microsoft can continue to put out an e-mail application that locks up every time it checks mail is beyond me. Someone needs to march into the office of their Dev Manager, tie him to his desk and force teach him about multiple threads and their uses in a multitasking environment. Then bitchslap him until he apologizes and assigns a developer to the problem. Oh, and MAPI. Nuff said. I've used Word 2002 and Excel 2002 and have noticed no improvements. Whatever they did (and I'm sure they did SOMETHING), they didn't improve any features I use. Access has some minor improvements but I've noticed nothing special. So basically, there is no compelling reason for the average consumer to upgrade to Office XP. Microsoft knows this and that's probably what is driving some of these upgrade changes. In fact, it's getting to the point where even corporations are saying "No thanks, our current version suits our needs just fine." Microsoft Office's biggest competitor is previous versions of Office. There are only so many things people need a Word Processor or a Spreadsheet to do. They met those needs in Office 8. Thus all the new features have been in the areas of workgroups and collaboration. Now the .NET move. Again, nothing that would compel anyone with Office 8, to upgrade. The problem is new computers. Corporations hire new people, people get new computers. Try to buy Office 8 anywhere or bump a site license to allow more Office 8 users. That's where Microsoft has people by the short hairs. No Corporation wants a mixed environment. Once they upgrade a few people, everyone gets upgrades. Well, that's my theory. > -----Original Message----- > From: Creed Discussion List > [mailto:CREED-DISCUSS@WINDUPLIST.COM] On Behalf Of Debbi R > Sent: Thursday, August 16, 2001 8:02 PM > To: CREED-DISCUSS@WINDUPLIST.COM > Subject: Re: Clippy, He's still there! > > > Front page 2k2 kicks serious ass.
