If you've dismissed non-Microsoft office software, you might want (or need) to rethink that position. Perhaps predictably, Microsoft has ended free support for Office 97 and Outlook 98. If you need help with these "dinosaurs," you can pay $35 for a phone call or $14.95 for online assistance from third-party support partner ePeople. About 40 million business users still use Office 97 compared to 25 million for Office 2000, according to Guernsey Research. I guess Microsoft decided it's time to punish these throw-backs for not adhering to the Master Upgrade Plan, just like it plans to punish potential XP converts for not jumping right on the XP upgrade bandwagon.
