i definitely agree with you there, on the best's...personally, while the original shining was a good movie, it was rather different from the book...

Personally, I think the BEST adaptations are Shawshank Redemption, and The Green Mile.  Pet Sematary was also damn good.
 
Then there were such BOMBS as Firestarter, and The Lawnmower Man (at least SK had the sense to have his name removed from that particular piece of filth).

Lol, great point.  The movie is never as good as the book, only in rare instances like "The Shining" and "Carrie" , they were pretty good.
What disinterested you in the movie?  For me, it was not hearing the vivid thoughts that ran through Paul's head throughout his ordeal.  That was the whole novel IMO.
