So there's a difference in illegal aliens depending on where they live?  If so, then Canadian's must fall under a different rule.  I married a Canadian and he did not AUTOMATICALLY gain citizenship because we were married.  We still had a long drawn out process to go through with INS, but in the end, he does get to apply for citizenship.  That process only took 3 1/2 years, which is far less than 18, so again, I'm wondering, are there different rules that apply depending on your country of birth....seems odd....

Go back and re-read the post.  Pay particular attention to the sentence that says "The eighteen years...is the time required for a legal alien to live here before being allowed to apply for full citizenship."  You might want to check out the Immigration and Naturalization Services website. (www.ins.gov)

Incidentally, is your dad a citizen?  If so, then by marrying your mom, she AUTOMATICALLY gains citizenship (that's the big attraction to the "Mail-Order Bride" business).

no, I know for sure that my mom crossed illegal. But then afterwards, she
applied for the green card. She still is not a citizen.
18 years of which I speak? You mean my 18 year old friend?, no shes
been here since she was five, thats it.
