If I was in a country that used another language. Just as the fact that English is the language that is spoken across the country and aids in being able to walk up to someone in Texas. When you are visiting from Ohio and be able to carry on a conversation with them. Maybe Texas, Florida and California are bad examples. But it is nice to be able to have the ability. Instead of having to learn Ohioan, Indianaese or some other state specific language. We are the only nation, to my knowledge. That still does not use metric measurements. Though I was taught them in school and was ready for the transition. But the transition never happened. I never had to learn any foreign language. so I'd be SOL if another language became predominant. I'd rather have us go with metric measures and dump the ancient one. I agree with you on the proficiency tests. Teach them how to learn and the skills to progress in learning. Just as food can be bad for your system, music can be bad for your spirtual and emotional feelings.
