Go back and re-read the post.  Pay particular attention to the sentence that says "The eighteen years...is the time required for a legal alien to live here before being allowed to apply for full citizenship."  You might want to check out the Immigration and Naturalization Services website. (www.ins.gov)
 
Incidentally, is your dad a citizen?  If so, then by marrying your mom, she AUTOMATICALLY gains citizenship (that's the big attraction to the "Mail-Order Bride" business).

no, I know for sure that my mom crossed illegal. But then afterwards, she
applied for the green card. She still is not a citizen.
