================================================ Subject: Survey 1 of 2 From: "Jackson Crawford" To: Date: Fri 3 Aug 2001 21:20:41 -0500 ================================================ I hate surveys, but I wanted the opinions of a large group on two subjects. The first is that of Texan independence. Read the following and send me your thoughts, if you so desire - On March 2, 1836, Texas announced its independence and eternal political separation from Mexico, functioning as an independent republic until 1845, when the citizens of the nation exercised their right to join the United States. In 1861, Texas seceded from the United States but never joined the Confederacy (little known fact), although it did strongly ally itself with the South (insert Reb yell here!). In 1865 when the North invaded the South, Texas was so pissed with the North that it had full intention of functioning as a fully independent republic from there on in. Unfortunately it was invaded by the North and given "Congressional representation" five years later. There has never, never, been a legal document making Texas a state of the Union, because the United States cannot make the captured territory of an other nation a state! Modern evidence of Texas's independence: - Texas has never relinquished her flag. States are required to fly their flags under the United States flag, Texas does not have this restriction and can fly her flag as high as she damn well pleases, equal (or even higher) than the federal flag. -Why do you think there's such a high federal military presence near every major Texan city? Suspicious... -Oh come on, you know how we Texian types are! Hell, my family's been here since the 1820's. My kith fought and died to free Texas from Mexico in the 1830's and from the U.S. in the 1860's - which haunts me, 'cause it seems like a lost cause, especially if this damned "open border" crap with Mexico gets passed. Don't get me wrong; I'm a proud American. But I'm a prouder Texian. I am a son of Texas and a son does not betray his mother. What are your thoughts on all of this?
