================================================ Subject: Let's Move On From: To: Date: Thu 19 Jul 2001 22:18:49 EDT ================================================ This is my responce to recent discussion on Brian Marshall and his new band, Grand Luxx: It is my belief that Mr. Marshall has gotten himself in another project for many reasons. One of those reasons is or at least should be to move on. "Well, everyone I know has a reason, to say, put the past away" another rock band, Third Eye Blind sang about in their song "Jumper." Bands are nothing without their fans. If Grand Luxx's fans are just Creed fanatics who cannot "put the past away" and move on, they will never accept the band for its talent honestly. They will just want some slice of the bass player they are mourning the loss of. Remember that this is just my opinion. That is something we are to have and express. Also, if I am going to mention Third Eye Blind I have to make a statement and comparison. I do not think there is bitter blood between Mr. Marshall's current band members and his former ones. Kevin Cadogan, former Third Eye Blind guitarist did not take his departure in December of 1999 as lightly as Marshall did with Creed. However, Cadogan's departure was a well-planned firing while Marshall's reasons behind his departure were "mutual" and disclosed beyond the conventional "artistic differences." For those who know the aftermath of Cadogan firing or could careless skip the following paragraph until you see the number [2] two. However, for those who would like examples of how harshly Cadogan took his firing, keep reading. Soon after he was booted from Third Eye Blind, Kevin and his former songwriting partner, Stephan Jenkins were honored as Best Songwriters at the California Music Awards. Kevin refused to accept siding that he has nothing to do with that band anymore and thus is not going to take any awards for it. Cadogan and his new band, Cousin Kevin has released two albums on their own label since. Cousin Kevin includes members of Arion Salazar's (Bass player for Third Eye Blind) band before entering Third Eye Blind. The only words spoken about Third Eye Blind or the members of it by Cousin Kevin have been negative. In June of 2000, Kevin filed a lawsuit against his former band, record company, and many others. He revised the suit in March of 2001. A trial date has been set for February 25, 2002. Lawyers for Jenkins have indicated that Jenkins has no desire to settle out of court. Looks like the only Third Eye Blind reunion will take place in court. Personally, I have lost much respect for Cadogan through these antics. I must admit however, he has some legitimate complaints. Yet, some are also ridiculous. Both sides of this trouble have been nasty in their own way. I see the members of Third Eye Blind a little differently after all of this as well. The good that comes with this is the BREATHTAKING Tony Fredianelli, an original member of Third Eye Blind who reunited with the band as Cadogan's replacement. 2. It has been almost 350 since that press release announced that Mr. Marshall was no longer a permanent member of Creed. It has almost been a year and nothing like the antics of Kevin Cadogan has been released by either representatives for Creed or Marshall. This is a good sign and can calm my nerves at least. Someday we may see Grand Luxx on the same billing as Creed. If that does happen in the full, that will be an accomplishment like no other. I just hope that dream of mine will not turn out like the half-completed Marilyn Manson/Hole tour. In that tour, both bands were tying to prove that the bands did not hate each other, but then after a few weeks they found out that they indeed did hate each other. I know I am making this long. My message here is simple though. Mr. Marshall and his band mates understand why and how they are getting this fan base even before one gig. Nevertheless, everyone involved needs to move on. From the musicians to the fans need to move on without any lamentation, remorse, bitterness, craving for revenge, etc. Everything is a learning experience in life. As long as we learn from what we do, there is no reason to look back.
