================================================ Subject: scotty p interview part two From: "Lee Reed" To: Date: Tue 10 Jul 2001 14:41:32 -0400 ================================================ and the rest of the interview... mm: Do you have a different approach when you perform live than you do in the studio? SP: Yeah, I am trying to find a good balance between the two scenarios. In the studio, I tend to concentrate a little too much on planning parts rather than letting it flow naturally. On stage, all of us are overdoing it a little, trying to pump it up. mm: Do you record to a click track? SP: On the second album, everything was done to a click. About 60% of the first album was recorded to a click. I definitely could hear the difference. mm: Did playing to a click take some getting used to? SP: When we recorded the first CD independently, which turned out to be our national release, it was the first time I'd ever heard a click. It was really uncomfortable. I felt like I was fighting it the entire time. With the second CD, the click felt much more natural. I got to the point where I would try not to hear it. You want to know it's there, but not to the point that it is overbearingly loud. I felt a lot better about the last recording. mm: Do you have a practice regimen that you go through when you are home? SP: Not at all. I mean I should. I do have a set of Roland V Drums that I love to play around with. I usually just use it to play around with new sounds. I also play around with a Korg Triton Pro X 88-key keyboard. I'm just trying to get some things of my own going. Maybe I'll contribute to some of the songwriting in the band. At the very least, I'll continue writing for myself. I should practice way more than I do. I get home and I start playing golf and hanging out with my friends. The next thing you know, we are back on tour. mm: What could we expect from Creed in the future? SP: We are probably going to take off January through June. We are looking at going into the studio in July or August and try to get something new out by October or November. Way down the road, we are going to be doing a live record. Each night our sound engineer, Kirk Kelsey, has 24 channels of ADAT running. The live record is his project. We are going to let him mix it, but it probably won't come out for another couple of years. mm: What advice could you give bands just starting out? SP: Never give up! There are a lot of technical things you could do, e.g., recording a CD, making a presentable package, management and so on. First and foremost, if the four of us didn't first have a dream of being successful, we wouldn't be here right now. Just keep on pursuing that dream the entire time. If anything gets in your way, it doesn't mean give up; it means keep trying harder. It paid off for us. (By the way, the show was awesome!) _________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com To unsubscribe or change your preferences for the Creed-Discuss list, visit: http://www.winduplist.com/ls/discuss/form.asp
