The company that paid for the computer, software, office space, etc, etc own the rights to what their employees produce. If musicians could produce everything themselves and make money, they would. They can't. They need help. And in return for that help, they give up rights to the product they're producing. They get rich. They have thousands of screaming adolescent girls offering themselves at every tour stop. They get to take their families around the country with them as they tour. I'm having a hard time feeling sorry for them. I think there's something inherently wrong with that. Unfortunately, to get a contract, they have to sign those rights away.
