Ralph Waldo Emerson lived in the 1800's and wrote during the
transcendentalist movement. they pair him up with Henry David Thoreau a lot.
he is basically known for his collection of essays on "finding yourself" and
philosophical, spiritual things like that. you should read his work, he's one
of my favorite authors.
