================================================ Subject: Pray Obvious (again!) From: "Jackson Crawford" To: Date: Sun 27 May 2001 23:00:58 -0500 ================================================ Well, as some of you may have figured out by now, it has become a custom for me to send out one, big, "happy " message to all of you, my various email contacts around the world. They are titled "Pray Obvious," merely with due to the pray obvious nature of their subject. This, as a matter of course, is the Memorial Day edition of my "Pray Obvious" messages. Some of you receiving this message have been members of various divisions of the armed forces, whether in time of war or peace. You are to be saluted - without the pain, sacrifice, sorrow, anger, and sheer confusion through which you suffered, all of us would have that same pain, sacrifice, sorrow, anger, and sheer confusion to deal with in our every-day lives. Veterans, I salute you for liberating me. You the dead, who did not even know me, died so that I could waste my life how ever I saw fit. That is an enormous debt on my part, and on the part of every free individual on the face of this planet. You could have avoided the suffering, could have in many cases dodged the draft and retreated to happier lives, but you chose to take up arms so that I and my family and my friends could wake in the morning, not to the sounds of bullets but to the sounds of music. Here's a little something that I dug up for the occasion - ODE TO A DEAD BROTHER Brother, You endured the hell of war, that I might feel safe 'hind an unlocked door. You felt the bullets rip your skin, in the off-chance that our nation might win. Your last image was a tattered still of your sweetheart, that mine might never have to depart. Anyway, Happy Memorial Day everyone! Salute a dead man, hug a veteran, and hit anyone who complains!
