    I think that it depends on the area. I have an Argentinean friend at school who spells it "Texas" but Mexicans usually spell it "Tejas." I personally prefer the Argentinean version. He had said though that "cuervo" was a general word for corvids (the family that includes crows, ravens, magpies, etc.) but that there was also a more specific word for ravens that he couldn't remember. I don't know, perhaps someone else can clarify this?
