If offence was taken it was because they were not able to answer your question in a way to make you believe in what they wanted you to. It is not the Christians job to "make" you believe. It is the truth that will make you believe. I can not honestly answer all of your questions as my knowledge of the Bible and its times is not what I would wish it to be. I will ask others I know and see if I can get an answer for you.
