================================================ Subject: My General Commentary on the Dream & Psionics Subject From: "Jackson Crawford" To: Date: Mon 7 May 2001 20:57:15 -0500 ================================================ Let me begin by saying that this has to be one of the most fascinating threads that I've ever seen on this list (in my long glorious career of 37 days on it, that is). It has really brought out some pray interesting thoughts from some pray interesting individuals. To respond to everyone's message on his own personal experiences with all of this would be pointless and would take up a lot of time that I don't feel like spending on email. So I'm just going to state right here what I think of the phenomenon generally. First off, the human race is much, much more intelligent than it gives itself credit for being. It is my impression that it is whenever individuals that did not realize that they possessed as acute noetic faculties as they do subconsciously use those noetic faculties, they attribute them to some sort of psionic power. In a sense, then, we could claim the existence of psionic abilities, but only as consciously unexplored faculties of the mind, not supernatural or spiritual at all. So what I mean to get at here is that these dreams that seemingly predict future events are only our own subconscious minds "thinking" for us when we are asleep (or meditating, or what have you). Whenever we get an "idea" (I am not going to start on what I call an "idea", that would take a whole essay), but are unconscious or semi-conscious, the mind still wants to give the idea a chance of being recorded for use by our soon-to-be-conscious selves. To that end, it uses highly visual messages to convey a "point" (the "point" being the unconsciously conceived "idea") to the unconscious visual receptors. So these "predictions" are only our own minds figuring out subconsciously what a logical chain of events is. For instance, you may suddenly realize, subconsciously, that someone is betraying you (or will betray you), so the brain, which wants the idea to be remembered when you awaken with due to its priority, conveys the message with a lot of visual symbolism. If you remember it, and the events come to pass, you may think that you are psychic or have been warned by some higher force, but in reality you have only realized what you were thinking for the period of time that you are asleep. The mind doesn't shut down when we slumber, you see. If only we could remember all of the ideas that we come up with when we're unconscious! ANYWAY I hope that that made some sense and serves to rationalize things a bit.
