Because, if they had to sing AND run all over the stage, they'd probably get pretty out of breath by the end of the set... and their voices would get muffled doing certain moves... but I've never been to one of their shows, so I don't know for sure. That's just what would make sense to me. I see boy bands as more like entertainers than musicians... to me, musicians in bands are people who get together for a love of music and/or friendship, who stay together because they're expressing common ideals or because they just sound really good playing together... I can respect people who "just" sing and don't play an instrument, but for some reason there's a distinction between, say, Luciano Pavoratti and Michael Crawford as compared to NSync and Backstreet Boys. One thought that might be interesting to bring up... why is it more accepted when a solo artist doesn't play an instrument? Is it because when there's a group of people, we expect that one will be doing the main singing (and possibly playing guitar), and the others will be providing the instrumentals and backup vocals?
