They do a heck of a good job with it. It's almost that they know what they are doing with it. As far as playing MP3's. I would say that Winamp does a heck of a job with playing those files. They seem like they sort of were there in the early days and got it right. They have the EQ, the balance and thet can easily play loads of songs without having to go through a whole sideshow to get at. My problem is with Windoze player being the one that a few of the less acoustically inclined are using to stiffle competition with MPEG, MOV and RA types of programs. They say that the program is tied closely with the operating system. GREAT! But which one? ME, NT, 95, 98 or 2000! I bought a computer that was preloaded with Windows ME. I try to play the Media player and it locks up. I tried it on 95 and 98. It worked, but it sounded awfully tinnish. When I was running windoze 98. It worked, but not with great quality. Unless you design the stuff. It doesn't matter if you believe me or not. It don't play windows media files on ME. I can play mp3 files with xmms (linux) or winamp (windows). But, I wouldn't play mp3s or real audio with windows media player. Real player is a great company. They develop players for all the computer user systems. They were kind of slow on getting a working player from Redhat 5.2 to Redhat 6.0. You had to do all kinds of compatibility commands and stuff. My view, if windows media player is supposed to work well with the operating system. Shouldn't they upgrade all existing users to the best of the multiple versions for FREE! Then they can get a program to take advantage of the operating system. Then, maybe they wouldn't have to worry about legacy software compatibility. They could concentrate on an efficient coded program. One that works. Is clean, doesn't crash, ETC. Anyway, all I wanted to do was to check out that collective soul link that was sent to the list awhile back.
