No matter where we hear this melange of musical sounds and magical words, there is always a talented songwriter that has left his or her mark to share with us all. I have always been fascinated to find out where songwriters get their inspiration. How is a song actually written? Luckily - I have found a songwriter that was gracious enough to open up and share his songwriting trials and errors. Terrill Hinson, songwriter, and performer of the stardom-bound band called bridge, answered a few of my inquisitions. When I asked Terrill about the inspiration of a song - where does it come from, he was very direct "I write from experiences that I've had in my life, as well as the experiences I've seen others go through." Which relates back to me, that every song you will ever hear bridge perform, is a song from the heart - Terrill's heart. He explained, "Depending on what the song is about, and how in depth I want to get into it, that's how long it takes me to write a song." The song "As a Tree" from their first CD took Terrill approximately 15 minutes - however, the soon-to-be released song "Day of Pride" took a few days to write. "I guess it all depends on the clarity of thought," said Terrill. And may I add that "Day of Pride" is a heart-touching song of abuse, and I find that Terrill has done a terrific job vocalizing his thoughts on the subject. Looking back at the very first song Terrill wrote, entitled "Porchsteps" he describes that song about being in love with a girl, and then getting your heart broken by the one you love, because she is cheating on you. Hinson says "It's a typical situation that happens a lot these days. Loyalty, trust, and respect lack in most relationships that I've seen." These are such profound words from someone so young. When I listen to the new songs the group has produced, I listen to them three times before making any judgment - first I listen to the lyrics, then the music, and then I put them all together for one final run through - after that I usually listen to that new tune over and over again, as loud as I can. Terrill says a song is put together two different ways. "I'll either write the lyrics, and put a tune to it, or come up with a tune, then write lyrics to match with it." But Hinson says he usually comes up with the tune first. "Lately, things have changed a bit with the songwriting, Sean, our lead guitar player, is a very talented individual. He and I are starting to collaborate a lot through guitar playing, as well as vocally," said Terrill. "It certainly helps when you have someone that can be by your side, not lagging behind," he added. When I asked Terrill about what bridge meant to him, he again surprised me with his wisdom. "Bridge and being a part of it, is the best thing that's ever happened to me. Playing in the band has given me a chance to express my heart and soul through the songs I've written, as well as the other members of the group," said Terrill. "It has given me more time to spend with my brother (Brandon), as well as making two great friends, John (Mitchell) and Sean (Lindfors)." Terrill Hinson's songwriting talent and newly found vocal sounds are a winning combination that any band would be so fortunate to have. "I couldn't have asked for anything more perfect or fun," Hinson surmised. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE Budweiser E-mail account at http://budweiser.com Budweiser E-Mail must be used responsibly and only is for consumers 21 years of age and older!
