================================================ Subject: Msg From Admin: Frequently Asked Questions From: "Ed Kiang" To: Date: Fri 23 Mar 2001 13:17:11 -0500 ================================================ Welcome to the new Creed Discussion List. I would have posted this a little sooner, but I've been flooded with support issues from people who have been a little confused about what's going on with this list. So, first things first: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ **************************************************************************** ***** IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE ON THE LIST FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS: Send an email to LISTSERV@WINDUPLIST.COM with nothing in the subject line and with only the following command as the body of the email: UNSUB Creed-Discuss Let me reiterate that NOTHING ELSE except the above line should be in the body of the email. If you can't send emails from the account that is on the list, forward me a copy of one of the emails that you received from the list and I will try to manually remove you. **************************************************************************** ***** ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ OTHER USEFUL LIST COMMANDS (Send commands in the body of an email to LISTSERV@WINDUPLIST.COM): IF YOU DON'T WANT INDIVIDUAL EMAILS AND WOULD RATHER GET ONE BIG DIGEST PER DAY: - Use the command "SET Creed-Discuss DIGEST" (without the quotation marks). TO RECEIVE YOUR OWN POSTS: - Use the command "SET Creed-Discuss REPRO" (without the quotation marks). TO STOP RECEIVING YOUR OWN POSTS: - Use the command "SET Creed-Discuss NOREPRO" (without the quotation marks). TO TEMPORARILY STOP RECEIVING MESSAGES WHILE YOU ARE AWAY ON VACATION: - Use the command "SET Creed-Discuss NOMAIL" (without the quotation marks). TO START RECEIVING MESSAGES AGAIN WHEN YOU GET BACK FROM VACATION: - Use the command "SET Creed-Discuss MAIL" (without the quotation marks). NOTE: To change the settings to your profile on the Creed discussion list, you always send the above commands to LISTSERV@WindupList.com. If you want to post an email message to the list, send the email to Creed-Discuss@WindupList.com. DO NOT SEND COMMANDS to Creed-Discuss@WindupList.com. If you do, you will be sending the command to the thousands of people on the list...and they won't be happy about it! Now that I have that out the way, let me introduce myself. I am Ed Kiang from Wind-up Records. Contrary to what some of you think, I am not the moderator of this list. In fact, this list is an UNMODERATED LIST, just as it has always been. I'm also not the owner of the list. So, some of you are asking, "if he's not the moderator and he's not the owner, then who the heck is he?" Well, I'm the tech guy who sets up the lists. I have received a lot of questions about the list settings, so I'll answer them here: 1. I have lifted the per day limit to 500 messages. 2. I have capped each message to 250 lines. 250 lines should be more than enough space to say what you want to say. Putting a limit will prevent people from clogging the system with super long sig files and old postings that get attached to the bottom of replies. As common courtesy, always try to remember to TRIM YOUR POSTS. And no, the limit is not negotiable. 3. I have blocked attachments to the list. Again, this block is not negotiable. 4. To receive messages in MIME format, send the command "SET Creed-Discuss MIME" to listserv@winduplist.com. If you don't know what MIME is, then don't worry about it. 5. Who should you contact for info about the band? Not me. I handle tech support questions. If the list isn't working right, I'm the man to contact. If you want tour info, contest stuff, merch, etc., then visit the band's official website at http://www.creednet.com. Also, I have noticed that some people are wondering what's "new" about this list. We did not intend to change anything about the discussion list--we only wanted to switch which servers the list resided on. By moving the servers to newer, beefier systems, we can better avoid downtime and respond to technical problems faster than was previously available. However, in the move from the old server to the new server, all of the settings were unfortunately lost. With your help, we are putting everything back together. Thanks for your patience and understanding. Ed Kiang Wind-up Records
