================================================ Subject: Creed in Kansas City 2/17/2002 From: "Kristin" To: Date: Tue 19 Feb 2002 00:30:49 -0600 ================================================ Hi! First of all, this is going to be a crosspost and also kind of more a trip report than a concert review, but hey.. bear with me ok? We left around 12:45 and didn't get to town until about 4:00. We always miss our exits for some reason! But as it turns out, we couldn't have checked into our hotel until 4pm anyway. Crappy hotel! Holy cow.. it was the Rodeway Inn at about 32nd and Broadway (yes I know this means nothing to 99% of you, but who knows.. maybe there's someone out there who knows where I'm talking about). It was one of those environmentally conscious places.. you had to put your hotel keycard in a slot on the wall to turn on the electricity ok?? This is nuts! Fast forward.. we called a cab to come get us around 6:15-6:30. Never showed up. Asked the guy at the front desk to call us a cab which he did happily. The cab arrived in about 10 minutes. 7:45 and $24 in cab fare later, we FINALLY get to Kemper Arena. Holy crap that was an expensive ride! But hey, it's for Creed.. worth it right? Hell yeah! Virgos was already playing when we found our seats (which a couple was already sitting in.. and we were told by the girls next to US that those people were also in THEIR seats before they arrived as well.. sheesh!) So, we only got to see Virgos for about 10 minutes, and it wasn't that great, IMHO. Sure they were playing and everything.. but it wasn't anything like I thought it would be.. they were just 'alright'. In about oh, 20 minutes or so Tantric came onstage. Hmm, ok. Another "huh?" moment. They were alright.. but not wonderful IMHO. Hugo does have that mega-Stapp wannabe theme goin' on.. how he walks and is so 'into' it. I do have to admit that I was impressed that he could growl as much as he did. Man that guy has to have some strong vocals to put them thru that every night. He also jumped down into the crowd which I thought was cool with the exception of all the girls throwing their arms around him and hugging him.. a bit much I thought.. but who knows.. in a moment like that I might've done it too had I been on the floor in their positions. So anyway.. Tantric went on and played for awhile.. announced that it was their last show with Creed and asked if we would make it worth it, or something to that effect.. make it a memorable one maybe? I just noticed that the crowd wasn't THAT into them.. I mean they were, but not as much as they were with Creed of course.. Onto Creed.. wow.. what can I say?? Wonderful as usual. This was my third time seeing Creed. Wow.. Scott's voice actually held up too.. I was so happy! Only once did I hear it crack a bit.. I think it was on Who's Got My Back Now? I'm not sure.. but it was only a bit noticeable.. :) The set was really impressive, although Scott didn't walk up around the back behind the drums like he normally does. That's pretty cool when he actually does do that.. I liked the Creed Crests in the fence thing around the back catwalk. Very cool. The pillars on the backdrop were cool too.. with the screens and everything on them so you can see the guys up close. Here's the setlist and I'll tell you more about the songs if I think of something as I go along.. Bullets - long intro as Scott said before.. from about 9:05 until 9:25 it went on.. then they finally started the show.. nice start though.. really got the crowd goin' Freedom Fighter - again great song.. very cool live.. not one of my favorite songs, but it's starting to grow on me! What If? - the usual awesome pyro effects.. loved it! The crowd of course sang along on the end part.. (or I guess I should say screamed..) My Own Prison - Scott rambled about how this is the song that started it all for them, blah blah blah.. sometimes I wonder why he talks.. lol.. Mark AND Brett sang back-up this time.. which I was glad for.. Brett can't sing it ALL the damn time. Torn - OMG, I was so happy they did Torn.. it's my hubby's favorite song and so it meant more to hear it with him next to me (it was his FIRST Creed show, and he's not really a fan.. just a tag-a-long fan because he knows how much I love them.. but he's getting to like them more and more I think..) Who's Got My Back Now? - long intro to this song on the screens.. but very cool visuals.. I think this was the one that Brett was singing along with Scott on the chorus.. I was like, wtf is he doing?? Sometimes it sounded so 'off'.. like they were out of tune with each other or something.. but oh well.. it sounded alright, it was just annoying I guess.. I never did like Brett but he does a decent job on bass.. :) One Last Breath - oh man, this is one of my favorite songs.. LOVE it.. it was so great to see live too.. Weathered - this song too.. great song live.. although I'm not sure what Stapp was trying to say when he introduced it.. something about it's how we all felt while writing it, and it's how we still feel today, etc etc.. again I wonder why he opens his mouth.. I never did 'get it' this time around.. maybe someone else can enlighten me who was there? :) With Arms Wide Open - for some reason I almost wished they hadn't played this song.. I guess I'm just getting tired of it? I dunno.. I still love the video though.. I'm weird.. Hide - Great song too! Love that they did this live.. Stand Here With Me - Yep, Scott played the guitar on this one, although not much.. just as an extra fill-in when Mark soloed. The ending was shortened, which I think is the coolest part of the whole song, but that's alright.. he still growled at the end of it.. haha.. One - YES.. this will ALWAYS be my favorite Creed song and I was THRILLED that they played it.. just ask hubby.. I went ballistic! Stapp introduced it with something about "this song has more meaning after 9/11, blah blah blah.." What's This Life For? - another crowd favorite, although I was the only one screaming her head off when Mark started playing the Blue Collar intro. So funny.. but hey, at least I was into it.. Encore: Don't Stop Dancing - My ears were failing at this point, but was Brett singing the high boys' choir part on this song or am I just dreaming? I swear it was only HIS voice, but hubby said it was the choirboys piped in.. anyone know? Maybe it was both? And yes, I missed Amie's part.. she adds so much to it! Lullaby - Ok, wondered if this would go over well.. suprisingly it did.. BIG crowd response.. although they cut out Mark's solo in the middle.. Higher - Actually I was excited to see this again.. seems like it's been awhile since I've heard it.. great pyro stuff too.. My Sacrifice - Yep, you knew it would be last.. great ending to a WONDERFUL show! I wanna see them again!!!! Hoping for a tour in Europe when we're there in May.. but we'll see.. Thanks for reading this far.. hope you enjoyed the review.. sorry if some parts were negative.. I just say 'em as I feel.. (btw, the cab ride on the way back to the hotel was, again, $25.. *sigh*) Kristin, a very happy Creed fan!
