================================================ Subject: Msg From Admin: Two Big Announcements From: "Ed Kiang" To: Date: Tue 22 Jan 2002 11:46:34 -0500 ================================================ Two important messages: 1. As mentioned earlier last week, the mail system for Winduplist.com will be going offline for approximately 24-48 hours while we perform routine maintenance. The servers will go down at approximately 10am EST on Wednesday January 23, 2002. What this means is that all E-news and discussion list emails will be disabled during this period. If you try to email the list during the maintenance period, the email will likely bounce. We apologize for any inconvenience. 2. I'd like to take a minute to talk about proper etiquette on this list. New members and list veterans alike are asked to abide by the same rules of conduct. Simply stated, we encourage an open dialogue but will not allow disparaging remarks directed at other list members. While this is an unmoderated list, we reserve the right to ban anyone that does not follow the rules. To be more specific, people are allowed to say they don't like Creed. Likewise, people are allowed to say they really like Creed. However, users are not permitted to accuse other users of being idiots because they misinterpreted an email or did not use the "Reply All" feature of their email client. As for Non-Creed Related (NCR) emails, I believe there are two categories that should be differentiated. One-line NCR posts like "Hi!" or "Welcome back!" or "Good morning! I just had french toast" should stay off of the list. Many of you have been on this list for a long time. And while I'm sure you'd love to welcome back an old friend to the list, you have that person's email address and could just as easily get the message across privately. That's not to say that all NCR posts are inappropriate. I believe that a second category of NCR posts consists of topics like "What do you think of Virgos", "Why doesn't MTV play more videos", "CDs cost way too much", "Napster vs Musicnet", etc. These kinds of topics encourage discussion and are at least music related. Just as a reminder of the rules, I am pasting them below. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. Ed //////////////////////////////////////////////////// ************* CREED-DISCUSS RULES ****************** //////////////////////////////////////////////////// Q: Are there any rules or guidelines I need to know about the Creed list? A: Good question. We are strong believers in freedom of speech and would like to keep this list unmoderated. However, if people post whatever they feel like that has no Creed related content, then the list becomes a burden for most people who are here to discuss the band. We ask that you make an effort to keep discussions Creed related. Generally speaking, think before you post something to the list. Ask yourself whether you would get up in front of an audience of hundreds of people and read it to them. As the list administrators, we have a duty to keep the list a pleasant place for Creed fans. Therefore there are a few things that you should not post to the list; doing so may result in being removed from the list at our discretion: 1. No chain letters. This includes almost any piece of mail asking you to forward it to as many of your friends as possible. These are often requests to help some poor dying child by granting their wish that they receive the most emails ever and the Red Cross will donate money for every email sent. This story (and all stories like it) are hoaxes. You're welcome to believe it if you want, but don't post those messages to the list! Also, please do not post virus warnings or SPAM of any sort. 2. Threatening or abusive flames of people will not be tolerated. Keep that to personal email! Flames of people's opinions are fine (feel free to attack an idea or opinion, but not the person). 3. No posting of any binary attachments, which include pictures (bmp, jpg, gif etc.) and audio files. These posts will be rejected by the list server. 4. Do not forward private emails to the list without the original author's consent. 5. Make your messages count. Subscribers aren't here to read witty, one line, musically irrelevant comments to some thread. Try to trim quoted passages as best you can, and avoid posting in anything other than plain text. Posting wholly in HTML is unacceptable, since many subscriber's email windows will not display it properly. Sigs (signatures) are of course, acceptable, but should not be longer than the last essay you wrote for English class.
