But what irks me is when someone is absolutely insistent that Creed are blatantly ripping off Pearl Jam. The guy I was referring to is a big PJ fan, and is so convinced that Creed is trying to profit from PJ's popularity that he won't even listen to anything differing from his opinion. My argument was that, were he to actually listen to some of Creed's music (like the non-singles), that he might discover some differences between the two bands. He's basing his argument on having heard Creed a couple of times on the radio, and comparing that couple of times against all of his PJ CDs. To me, liking both bands, the difference is obvious (and was, the first time I heard Creed). Listening to "Say I" right now, one major difference is that Scott enunciates much more clearly than does Ed Vedder. Some of the songs are similar, and could be mistaken for each other's work by people who aren't familiar with either band (and that could be said of a lot of different bands)... but someone who's a major fan of Pearl Jam insisting that Creed is ripping them off? I'm too biased to really understand where he's coming from, but it's my opinion that if you're a fan of one of the two bands, you should be able to realize that there are distinct differences in most of the songs, and one isn't ripping off the other. But that would require actually listening to the band that you're not a fan of, beyond the range/tone of the singer's voice and the style of music, I guess. Okay, it's late, I'm tired, I'm rambling (again). Eddie come out on top! | The fact is, if you aren't into either band, they do sound alike. | Similar style (depending on the song) and similar voices. | | Anyone who listens to the radio and doesn't own a PJ or Creed CD will | make the mistake of thinking they're the same band.
