Paul: It's wonderful that you're finding faith in your God through Creed... but I think you might be looking too deeply into their songs and translating them to suit your own purposes (which is fine) instead of looking at them for how they were really written. _____________ I have to agree with this point. There have been plenty of songs (especially when I was younger) that within the context of my life seemed to have a LOT of personal meaning and application, but were in reality just songs. While I believe that Creed's music does have a strong spiritual dimension I don't find thier music to be evangelical in nature, nor do I think that the Gospel is conveyed clearly enough for their songs to be responsible for anyone accepting Christ as their Savior. those of us who have been through some kind of spiritual ringer in our lives can relate to what Scott has to say on a lot of levels, but there is a clear attiude of struggle in thier music. "But Joe, aren't we supposed to take up our cross daily and follow Christ?" Yes, for the Christian that would be true. Simple living can be a struggle. However, I believe that God expects us to look to HIM for strength, NOT to our CD collection. ____________________ Meaning behind most of their songs have already been covered (by the band) and very rarely are they so linked to the bible as you are claiming. Bullets, as several have stated, is more about the lies and private lives that have found their way into print than about the bible (one part, or entire verses). But, each is free to interpret a song in any way they choose... but to claim that their way is the only right way, and then to say that they are only trying to prove that Creed is a biblical band (what's with the "Disciple" subject, anyway?) is a bit overkill. _______________________ You could find Biblical parallels in anyone's music - The Bible was meant to be universally topical and applicable so it's feasable that you can find some verse somewhere and apply it to any song (albeit totally and completely out of context). _________________ Out of personal curiosity, how do you interpret "Faceless Man" and "My Own Prison"? ___________________ I know you didn't ask me..... but if you look at both of these songs, they seem to be told from opposite sides of the fence. MOP being a song about a man in spiritual torment and Faceless Man being a song about a man who has come to a place of peace with his interpretation of the Gospel. The face on the water is clearly the face of Christ, the Faceless Man clearly the sin nature of mankind. _________________ Oh, and telling people to "check the lyrics" and saying that they are analyzing the song wrong, is in itself wrong. This is a place where one is free to speak opinion, and you will find that each person WILL check the lyrics prior to analyzing a song. And may I also point out that love in a God is welcome here, but attempting to convert people to the choice of one God by way of personal opinion in a song will usually be met with resistance. Many people here are fans of Creed not because the occasional person will come along and lay claim to the lyrics as being strait from the bible (not denying that the bible hasn't influenced some of their lyrics, but the band is far from Disciples of your God), but instead because of the message that THEY get from the music and lyrics. And if you ask around, a lot will also say that they don't get any sort of religious meaning from the songs... the band included. ________________ I don't think that they've ever come out and said that their lyrics aren't spiritually motivated but they have said that they have no overall agenda. Translation: "We're not trying to save anyone, we're not trying to convert anyone. If you find some sort of deep personal thing in our music that moves you spiritually, serendipity, bay-bee!"
